In just a short drive from camp you will be able to see some wonderful sights and will be able to participate in some fun recreational activities.  Check out the links below for more information:

AREA INFORMATION - within one hour of the camp

Raystown Lake - US Army Corps of Engineers Site(5 miles from camp)

Tatman Run Swimming Area - A public swimming area (without lifeguards, but with safety throw rings). This buoyed swim area is 200'x75' and is the closest swim access to Camp Mantowagan. (5 miles from camp)

Raystown Resort - Waterslides, slash-zone, boating, lakefront and other options (5 miles from camp)

     Raystown Waterpark - Waterslides and the slash-zone at Lake Raystown Resort

Trough Creek State Park - Hiking trails and picnic areas-- Everyone LOVES Balanced Rock & Rainbow Falls!!  (5 miles from camp)  

Warriors Path State Park - Hiking trails and picnic areas (near Saxton, PA) - (20 minutes from the camp)

Allegrippis Mountain Biking Trails - Thirty-three miles of smooth singletrack trails, built on the surrounding hill of Pennsylvania's largest lake, Raystown.   Trails range in difficulty from beginner to expert with three stacked loops, making the combinations endless. The trail system is open year round to all users.   (35 minutes from the camp)

Donation Rocks Rock Climbing (the rocks the campers visit each summer) - North of Huntingdon, PA - 45 minutes from camp

The H & BT Rail Trail - From Riddlesburg to Hopewell....to Tatesville, PA just south of Everett - The Riddlesburg trailhead is 17 minutes south of Mantowagan.  

The Lower Trail - Rails to Trail from Williamsburg, PA to Alexandria, PA or to Canoe Creek State Park.  (40 minutes from the camp)

Pike to Bike - The Abandoned PA Turnpike and Tunnels just east of Breezewood off Rt. 30 -  (45 minutes from camp)

Lincoln Caverns - (35 minutes from camp)

Old Bedford Village - A reconstructed pioneer village (45 minutes from camp)

Canoe Creek State Park - Swimming in the lake, fishing, hiking trails, etc.  (50 minutes from the camp)

Blue Knob All Season Resort - Includes snow skiing, tubing, golf, mountain biking, hiking, etc.  just under an hour from camp.  The resort is part of the Blue Knob State Park.

Altoona Curve - a minor league baseball organization of the Pittsburgh Pirates holds games from April through September each year in Altoona, PA. - About a 50 minute drive from the camp.

East Broad Top Railroad - historic narrow gauge railroad.  The railroad is being restored at this time and they only offer limited times for train rides, but the hope is to offer this regularly in the near future.  (35 minutes from the camp)

Larger towns in the area include Huntingdon to the north.  Huntingdon was named the 5th coolest small town in the United States in 2009 as announced on the The Early Show (CBS).   Standing Stone Coffee Company is a neat location at 1229 Mifflin Street, Huntingdon.

Altoona is to the northwest (50 minutes), Bedford to the southwest and Breezewood to the south.

CHECK OUT THE NEW COFFEE SHOP IN SAXTON - THE GRIND - 710 Main Street, Suite 1, Saxton, PA

The nearest Grocery store to the camp is the Saxton Market in Saxton (509 Main Street). Saxton also has a Dollar General store (701 Main Street). Bubbas Pizza and Sub Station and OIP (Original Italian Pizza) in Saxton are restaurant options.
